Week 6

Congratulations to our Certificate winners this week - awesome job guys!

We shared some of our work at Assembly this week.

Collaborative problem solving
We enjoyed a great Maths session today, bringing together all our collaborative and problem solving skills.  The children showed great determination, perseverance and fantastic Maths Talk while completing the two problems.  I have included the trickier of the two here - have a look at it and see if you can solve it, then get your child to show you how they did it.  Optional homework for all of course but I know some of the class were really excited by this learning process and the steps they have learnt to go through when problem solving.

We have been doing lots of other stuff too!  Exploring metaphors has been a lot of fun and art is always super popular in Room 16!  Have a lovely weekend everyone!

THE PROBLEM

Farmer MacDonald counted the number of cows and chicks on her farm by counting their heads and legs.  She counted 45 heads and 100 legs.  How many cows and chicks did she have?
(Hint: Cows have 4 legs and chicks have 2 legs)

Explain how you know there are more chicks than cows.

Can your child remember what the problem solving strategy used to solve this was called?

Have fun!
