Homework

Homework is issued fortnightly and needs to be signed by parents.

From time to time there may be additional tasks that will support learning 

in the classroom. 

Reading
Some children will bring home a reader and record book - please take the time to read with your child if they bring home a book.  Should a book not come home, please encourage your child to read from their own library.  

Independent readers choose from their own personal library, school library or public library.  

Children should be reading for 20 minutes every day.  


Spelling
Children learn their words and are tested every fortnight.  We have a practice test on the alternate week.

Essential Word Lists - children on these lists should aim to learn most of their list in the first week, then a second set of words in the second week.
Parents you are welcome to test your child on the lists in their book and tick and note the ones already known.

List words - If your child is able to spell the words on this list by the end of the first week (in the practice test) their challenge for the second week is to write each of these words in context, in a great sentences.

Maths
Maths Knowledge (Basic Facts) 
Mathletics - each week the target is to reach 1000 points.

Your child has now identified a set of basic facts to work on as their Maths homework goal.  When they feel they have mastered these, they can come and see me to be tested and another goal will be set.

In their homework book is an information sheet, detailing how you can help them at home.

Missing Readers

uBBS loses many books each year through non returns – costs the school thousands!

uThis year we will be implementing a much more stringent process around returning books.

uIf your child brings home a reader, please support them to return to school the next day as another cannot be sent home until returned.

uLibrary day is Monday – 2 books – no issues if overdue book/s.
