Lots of celebrating success in Room 16 this week  - keep it up.
We are very excited to be off to the Zoo next week - fingers crossed for some better weather.
This week we have been working hard on our ISS stories and publishing them as our very own books.  In Maths we have been learning more multiplication strategies and are beginning to look at division.  Topic is underway and we have been learning what enrichment is for animals and what it looks like for us as people.
Have a great long weekend, see you on Tuesday.

Week 4

Sadly we have had to postpone our much anticipated trip to Auckland Zoo today - disappointing for all but a good decision as it would be awful in torrential rain and wind!  We will notify of the new date as soon as possible.

Look at our stunning Poppy Art!  Well done Room 16.

Week 3 - Bullying Free Week

Congratulations to Jerry and George for receiving certificates this week -
great photo boys!  Keep up the good work.

We have been lucky to have Miss Muir in our classroom this week.
She is a student teacher and will be back in September for 3 more weeks!
Lucky Room 16!!

This week is Bulling Free New Zealand Week.

Room 16 have been learning what bullying looks like, how someone being bullied feels, how to take action if we are are others are being bullied.  We have also identified that we all have a support 'web' of people around us, that we can ask for help.  We have been working on this each afternoon.

Our favorite activity was the bruised and beautiful apples activity.  We learnt about the damage and hurt bullying, or even the occasional negative and horrible comment, causes, that we do not see.  We also realized that we can't take back or remove the hurt by saying something nice.  Unkind words hurt us on the inside.

After this, we practiced paying each other compliment.  We all agreed it was lovely to receive them.
On Wednesday, we all taped a paper apple to our backs and spent some time writing positive things on our classmates apples.  Reading all the lovely things written in our apples made us all feel good it also made us feel good to fill our classmates apples with positive comments.   It was lovely watching you all read your apples!!!

Here is the link to Oat the Goat - a pick a path story that we explored in class.
Have fun sharing it with your younger family members!

Week 2

Congratulations to Izzy, La Reina and Alicia for receiving Certificates at Mondays Assembly.

Congratulations to Kingston, Ruka and Leilani for their amazing Chorus Mural Entry

Thank you to the parents, who gave up their time to walk with us to Browns Bay on Wednesday.  I was a lovely day and we were excited to see the winning entries come to life on the Chorus boxes.  A huge thank you to our Artists,  Amy and Holly,  for also giving up their time to make this happen.
There were some excellent questions asked by Room 16 and Room 17; for example;  How did you make the design bigger? What will happen if the designs are graffitied?
When we returned to class, we learnt more about Enlargement and had a go at enlarging a design, using the grid method, used by Amy.

Term 2 - Week 1

Welcome back everyone! Sounds like everyone had a lovely break - fantastic!

Room 16 used their imagination (and some research) to write a creative story about a country they would like to visit.   Multiplication and division is the focus in Maths, along with Shape (Geometry).  We created some awesome positive/negative art showing understanding of refection and symmetry.

We have a busy term coming up, beginning next week with a walk to Browns Bay to check out the Murals, chosen by Chorus, being painted on the boxes opposite Westpac.  The winning entries will be announced on Monday.

Week 4 is Bullyfree week so we will be learning about what bullying is, how it makes us feel and what we can do if we see someone being bullied.

In Week 5 we begin our Lets Play topic with our Zoo visit on Friday 25th May - we are all excited about that!

Have a lovely weekend!
